How we respond to a disaster

From the minute we arrive to the moment we complete a project, a DKI licensed service provider will keep you informed every step of the way. At the same time, we’ll work with your insurance company to ensure you get the disaster recovery and repairs your home or business needs.

Here’s how our process works:

After you call us, we’ll have a team of DKI service providers on site within two hours.
As our service providers begin setting up, your DKI project manager will discuss your concerns and get more details on the damage to your home or business.
Our team will complete a full assessment of your property to ensure no potential issues or critical damages have been missed.
Depending on the extent of the scope of work required, our team may call one or more of our 200+ DKI service providers local to the event to assist with services and/or equipment.
Our team will begin repairing and cleaning up from the catastrophe, including pack-out for your belongings and relocating salvageable items to storage to be cleaned, sanitized and restored. We’ll also help you file a claim with insurance to ensure you get all the help you need.
Throughout the length of your project, your DKI project manager will also be available to answer any questions you have and to provide regular updates.

Not every disaster recovery company will keep you this informed or provide remediation services that are this transparent, but at DKI, we believe it is necessary for complete recovery.

What should I do while waiting for my response team?

This will vary greatly depending on the type and extent of the damage, the number of people injured, and the immediate danger of the area. If your property is deemed unsafe to enter and you must leave, please call us to let us know where you’ve relocated. Your safety comes first.

Document Everything

If safe to enter the property, document as much of the damage as you can for insurance purposes and to ensure your chosen restoration company addresses everything. Take photos of the exterior and interior of the structure, your belongings and any other damages you identify.

Flood Damage First Steps

If you experience flood damage, it is recommended to open the doors and windows as long as there is not any precipitation outside and remove any soaked rugs or carpet. Mop up as much excess water as you can and make sure to wear protective clothing (gloves and boots) while doing so, to avoid any contamination.

Check for injuries

Remove yourself from any dangerous situations immediately. If someone is injured, administer first aid and seek medical attention. Be sure to check for injuries before moving an injured person.

Watch for new safety issues

Washed out roads, contaminated resources and damaged electrical wiring are just some of the issues that can arise after a catastrophe. Be extra aware of your surroundings and monitor the news alerts to avoid further damage or injury.
